XiMulatorCore
OPC UA Information Model Engineering
Design, Edit and Generate OPC UA Information Models
What is XiMulatorCore?
XiMulatorCore is a standalone OPC UA information model engineering tool developed by 4CE Industry.
It provides an environment for creating, importing, editing and maintaining OPC UA Type NodeSets, with support for XMI 2.5 model transformation, standardized NodeSet2 XML generation and Markdown documentation.
XiMulatorCore allows engineers to define and maintain industrial information models independently of the OPC UA applications and servers that will use them.
The resulting models can be exchanged with compatible OPC UA tools and runtimes, including OOUAMiddleware. For an introduction to OPC UA types, references and model structures, see our OPC UA Information Modeling overview.

OPC UA Type NodeSet Engineering
OPC UA information models describe industrial systems through types, attributes and relationships.
XiMulatorCore supports the engineering of Type NodeSets containing ObjectTypes, VariableTypes, DataTypes, ReferenceTypes and their associated definitions.
Engineers can create application-specific information models or extend existing model definitions.
These models describe industrial equipment, production processes and data structures without requiring an immediate connection to physical devices. The use of these definitions by an OPC UA runtime is described in the OPC UA Runtime Model Architecture.
XMI 2.5 to OPC UA NodeSet2 Generation
XiMulatorCore supports the transformation of engineering models represented in XMI 2.5 into OPC UA NodeSet2 XML files.
The generated NodeSets use the standardized XML representation defined in OPC UA Part 6, Annex F (IEC 62541-6).
This workflow allows engineers to prepare OPC UA information model definitions from supported XMI models without manually recreating their structures.
The generated NodeSets can subsequently be imported into compatible OPC UA engineering environments and runtime applications.
Existing NodeSet Import and Editing
XiMulatorCore supports the import and modification of existing OPC UA NodeSet2 XML files.
Engineers can inspect model definitions, modify existing types, extend information models and export updated NodeSets.
This functionality supports the maintenance and reuse of industrial information models, including those developed using OPC UA Companion Specifications.
NodeSet2 XML Export
XiMulatorCore exports information models in the standardized OPC UA NodeSet2 XML format defined in IEC 62541-6, Annex F.
NodeSet2 files contain the definitions needed by compatible OPC UA tools to interpret information model types and their relationships.
The exported models are independent of the XiMulatorCore engineering environment and can be reused across projects and applications.
Markdown Documentation Generation
XiMulatorCore supports the generation of technical documentation in Markdown format from OPC UA information model definitions.
This functionality allows engineering teams to maintain documentation derived from the models developed within their projects.
The resulting Markdown files can be integrated into documentation repositories, version control systems and technical publishing workflows.
Multi-Project Management
XiMulatorCore supports multiple information modeling projects within a single engineering environment.
Projects can be organized around equipment families, industrial applications or customer-specific information models.
This enables engineers and system integrators to maintain separate model definitions while using a common engineering tool.
XiMulatorCore and OOUA Configuration Studio
XiMulatorCore and OOUA Configuration Studio address complementary engineering activities.
XiMulatorCore focuses on designing and maintaining OPC UA information model definitions, particularly Type NodeSets.
OOUA Configuration Studio focuses on instantiating information models and configuring industrial runtime projects, including Virtual Protocol Interfaces (VPI) and Virtual File Interfaces (VFI).
The NodeSet2 files generated by XiMulatorCore can be used within OOUAMiddleware, where OOUA CoreServer loads and executes the configured information models.
XiMulatorCore remains fully independent of OOUAMiddleware.
